Wait again haih!

'a great year is what you make it to be.So make it an awesome one!' says the message penned by P1 CEO on my gift P1 W1max calendar
Too bad I had wasted a quarter of a yr by doing nothing other than waiting. So how am I going to live up to the message to make this yr a great 1? Before I talk about my 'plans' let me talk about what others had been doing post A level.
1 of my classmate is working at Mashhor as HR something, another person I know is teaching at Kindycare or ABC, another 2 person I know is teaching at Chung Ching  (stress tu thats one of the top school in Brunei), another person is working at Goo Brothers, another is flying around Asia as a flight attendant with RBA, who else ah yes another is always busy with basketball tournaments (good luck). Wait a minute there is more another classmate had already enters uni at Curtin.
At first I plan to spend the 1st few month of wait by preoccuping myself with 'Grad Nite' project. Too bad it went down to the drains so badly incurring deficits.
Then, another plan. Get a license! I cant get in Brunei as my IC had already expired so my dad asked me to go back to Sabah & learn there. I rejected the plan thinking that it wont be sufficient time as uni admission requires a lot of paperwork should you get admission. Instead, I say learn in Miri but my mum say NO NO NO! Because no saudara there. Hence now I am paying the consequences of not wanting to get license i.e. boring wait for months doing nothing!
Then came some light, as I was searching for clues when the admission results will be released, I found out that most probably 30th April which is next week. OMG! I am so nervous right now. Its just a week away from the 'moment of truth'. Hopefully its not another 'false alarm' like what happened earlier in late January
Well, I guess thats about it for now. Before I sum things up would like to say Hi to the new readers of this blog Mr Lonely & somebody named Mohd. Just now before I had written this posting I was visiting Mr Lonely blog Mr Lonely .You can visit them if you are interested to know more about this 19 years old TAR College student. Its great knowing you guys & hope I can add you guys in Facebook.
alrite, have a great weekend people
This blogger thinks that we are not 'green' enough for there is very little recycling facility.
This blogger is also glad that he didnt fall into the trap of 'you have girlfriend/boyfriend I must also have girlfriend/boyfriend' during his school days although he really envies those who have iPhone, tech gadgets, etc! Astrologically, he thinks that he might find the 'one' in uni!

Labuan troubles again!

Ok 1st up a quick bytes on my Labuan 'balik rumah' trip last Sunday. Well to 'pendekkan the story' no ferry operate as usual so gotta wait till 4.30pm from 11am +. Reason: economic viability in ez terms tak cukup penumpang. Hence change of plan go to Kiulap for shopping & lunch. Had lunch @ Rasamas Qlap. The 3-layered tea is nice. Before returning to terminal feri Muara, had a round Bandar road tour from Jalan Residency all the way till Mentiri using d jalan tepi sungai Brunei (whats d jalan name?). Then at Muara travel to Pantai. Interestingly ada orang berjual baju & kasut there. 1 question boleh laku ke? Return to terminal around 3pm & bought tikets. The ferry operating was Express Kinabalu. I would say its fast as 1hr dah sampai Labuan, usually its 1.5h or even 1h 15min on Seri Anna d fastest catamaran/feri plying the route. The next day went to make pasport. 1hr aje dah siap & its e-pasport ho yeah! At the same time, I also went to make my Mykad 18 tahun. Paid RM$10 for it & it would be done in 1 month. After that my dad & mum went to do their other urusan till about 11+ then went to 'open' peti surat. To my delight the P1 W1max calendar that I have won had already sampai, and its not 1 but 2 as last month I had complainted that it havent arrive so they sent it again. Sorry P1 for all the inconvenience & few dollars postage lost in the extra delivery. The calendar was nice though & it was autographed by P1 CEO with a message
'a great year is what you make it to be.So make it an awesome one!'
After that then the problems started when we were about to leave pos office suddenly the kereta 'meragam'. It produces many sounds so my dad guess it was timing belt problem. Didnt know what to do or didnt want to take the risk, so we walked to the nearest workshop & asked the tauke about it. He say if repair need 2-3hr which we dont have as we already bought feri tiket for 3.30pm that afternoon. He also said mechanic keluar lunch 1pm baru datang balik. So we walked back to our car & tried something switching off the aircond. That solves the problem as no sound can be heard anymore hence it may be aircond belt problem!
On the way back to Brunei, in the feri Suria saw that Shuttle Hope ferry. Very little cars are carried on that trip I saw only 2. I wonder how are they going to survive on normal days with that little cars & passengers. Hence the April promo was initiated!

Random Spontaneous Post

Hey I am bk again blogging today. If you have read my postings a couple of since 2 weeks ago, it had been focused on just a single issue & might bore you to death. Hence, today (*bang head to the wall*) due to lack of ideas to blog, its time for more crap stuffs after 2 weeks of serious talk, LOL!
*staring blindly at the PC screen*
Just to update you guys out there, I still havent got my license yet (iski ku melihat orang drive kereta, but never mind look on the positive side, I am not contributing to global warming by walking haha). Hope to get it in December. However, according to people its difficult to get license in Singapore. Yes, the written test is piece of cake but the practical part is hard & its even made harder by not having poles to guide you anymore.
On the other hand, Brunei had granted me a month extension to my visit pass so technically I can stay in Brunei till (ambil kalendar kira) 3rd May 2010. Hopefully I can extend that till August after I had made my new passport. As yang lama have already penuh kena chopped by immigration in Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand & Taiwan. So this time, I am going to make a new kind of passport called e-Passport. I guess Brunei had this already. This kind of passport is ICAO compliant type of passport with microchip embedded in it. It is aimed to facilitate travel among ICAO member countries. What it means is if you hold a Brunei e-passport and you go to KL, previously in KL you cant use the autogate at immigration so with this e-passport in the near future you can use autogate. Same goes for those holding Malaysia e-passport in Brunei. Brunei Airport had also got these kind of autogate but so far its only for Bruneians. In simple words, it can reduce the amount of chops in your passport hopefully.
Regarding my university admissions, it still states 'application processing'. Tentatively, the result should be out between April - June, so need to keep my fingers crossed & often check my email. While those that applied for UK uni had already got the reply & even those applying for UBD/ITB had been called for interviews & tests since last week, I am still waiting.
On that note, I raise my case for this week. Have a lovely weekend & have FUN!

Old & Forward 2 issues

Lets see Earth Hour check, April Fool Day check. Earth Hour 2010 is a huge success worldwide, for instance Brunei recorded 38.5MW of electricity savings compared to the period on last Friday. For that, the Earth thanks you & it meant that you have made a stand against saving our earth & lobbying for our leaders to do the same via a more concrete action plan. Enough of serious talk
On a lighter note, today (April 1st aka the day this post is written) is April Fool Day. Guess some of you have been prank by your friends. I hope that none is hurt by those pranks. As usual, politicians have also their own April fool jokes. It is not suitable to share it here but if you search in Google, you will be able to find it. Do you know in France it is not called April fool but April Fish (Malay translation ikan bulan April or ikan jenis April). Without further ado, 2 things to blog for this week: old & forward
Old
I had just completed reading the book ’Chicken Soup for the soul: My Resolution’ that I had bought last December. (Slow right) The last story in the book is titled Lets celebrate the old written by Dayle Allen Shockley. It says a few old related things should be celebrated each year, so the author had their own list & I had mine too. Things in my old list includes
 Old shoes - According to some people, if you want to climb a mountain e.g. Mount Kinabalu, do not buy & wear new shoes for you climbing journey. Why? Your kaki will get very sakit after you come back. Instead, wear your trusted old shoe unless you want to go limping everywhere for sometime after you come back. Old shoes should not be thrown away, as the environment, state is bad already. Instead, donate it or keep it in your ‘great shoe museum’. My shoe had travelled thousands of miles for instance the shoe that I am wearing now had travelled to Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia and as far as Taiwan. So think twice before throwing old shoes yeah?
 Old folks - Yes, warga tua or orang tua! Your grandpa/grandma nini! Recently Astro aired a promo. It was about a college/uni student who did not know much/care about his grandpa. All he knew was study! Later, when he needed his grandpa assistance for an assignment, then this student thought about spending more time with his grandpa. The message of this promo is cherish & learn about your own family roots/history. Don’t wait until it is too late then you will regret! Back to the book, this author said ‘we just idolised the young while the old folks are forgotten’. Old folks have lots of wisdom & stories to share with us that may prevent us from committing the same mistakes as our ancestors as well as steering to the right course.
 Old friends - This is what that should be treasured the most by us the young generation. Sorry to say but I had not really keep in touch with them. So what about you guys?
 Old newspapers - My computer clogged with hundreds of copies of the digital PDF editions of newspapers such as Malaysia the Sun, Singapore’s TODAY and Mypaper. They remind you of what happen last year & 2 years back. For instance, the H1N1 pandemic, His Majesty hard-hitting titah on various issues, the death of Michael Jackson, the 308 political tsunami in Malaysia and many more. Did I mention that I had also three stacks of old newspapers that I do not feel like throwing them but instead I had wanted to recycle them? Too bad, there is too little recycling facility in Brunei!
Well that is it for ‘old’ topics; hope that with this posting it will be able to give you an idea of making you ‘old’ things list. Next, its time to look to the front so here comes: ’forward’
Forward
Students you have been back to school (or as I described it battlefield) after a holiday right. Holiday is sure much needed after you were bombarded with so much work & teacher shouting, etc. Well to students in PreU2 or the 2nd year of your Pre-U course, let me give you an idea of what to expect, from the eyes of a student that had passed through it last year.
 Extended class - Since the June AS is getting closer, even though there is still about 2 months but teachers do not think like that. From my experience, if you are so ‘lucky’ to have this kind of hardworking teacher, there is a chance that you may have to attend Friday & even Sunday classes. Yikes, Friday & Sunday classes are not the norms in Brunei schools. Hence, let this be a warning so that you will be prepared! Therefore, ‘jemputan kahwin‘, ‘jalan with family to Bandar/Miri’ would have to be forgotten for the meantime!
Now let us talk about a step further after your A Levels, where are you heading. Are you aiming for that uni/scholarship/job?
Life while waiting for the results can be boring. I would suggest you to take this opportunity to go and get your license if you do not have it yet. Some would also go to get a part-time job as a bank teller, office clerk, teacher, DJ, etc. It will help you to experience working life. However, some may go a step further by getting a fulltime job as a flight attendant. While some like, me just sits down & watch the world goes by.
Speaking about scholarship are you aiming for the Sultan’s Scholar or MOD Supreme Commander Scholarship. Both are what I called the ‘big 2’ of scholarships in Brunei. They are the most prestigious awards in Brunei awarded only to the ‘crème de la crème’ (best of the best). It is not easy to get, as it needs hard work in academics & great thinking skills. For the Sultan’s Scholar according to its recipients as quoted by local newspapers last year stay abreast with the current happenings in Brunei as the interview panel may ask your views on certain issues. So get your thinking caps on & be ready with the answers of the hard questions that maybe asked in your interview.
Next stop university which is another phase of your education. I understands that most of you are aiming to enter the best universities in either US, UK or Australia. Very little people I would say is looking nearer to our shores. In US you have Harvard, MIT, Stamford, etc while in UK you have Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College, etc while in Australia UNSW. Things to think
1st thing is can you reach the requirement?
2nd if you got admission can you afford the fees or can you get a scholarship?
3rd do you want to come back often to Brunei during holidays?
Let me tell you my earlier dreams, I wanted to enter UK university, University of Warwick to be precise. However due to financial constraints which may include resorting to remortgage our house to the bank, I decided to look nearer to our shores Singapore & Australia to be precise.
I am not being biased here but if you have a look at The Guardian or The Daily Telegraph website & search for Oxford, Cambridge & Imperial College related news you will know what I meant. On the other hand Singapore’s had just increased their university fees.
Think about the pros & cons of each country of study that you will choose? Do your homework/research! Don’t just follow friend. Its your future
Fine I think I better conclude now later if I talk about more aspects then I maybe in trouble. Tata, have a nice weekend & I will see you very soon!
P.S. This blogger thinks future is very bleak for his university admission but he believes ‘at the end of the tunnel there is light’. He thinks that we should dictate our own future don’t go against your own will!
